We have been advised that the Department of Health will issue new regulations on face coverings to come into force on Friday 18th December 2020.

From this Friday, a face covering will mean a covering that covers a person’s nose and mouth without leaving a visible gap. This reflects the public health guidance, available at https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/face-coverings-masks-and-covid-19/types.html

This regulation allows for people to wear a face shield or visor if they have a reasonable excuse, like they need to communicate, or they have a disability. The reasoning behind this is also set out clearly in the guidance.
